Queen Angelfish

Queen Angelfish

The Queen Angelfish is one of the most striking of all angelfish. The fish is vibrant yellow and electric blue highlights give the Queen Angelfish an almost pearlescent appearance. It has a dark circle on the forehead which is outlined in electric blue. Additionally, the pelvic and dorsal fins are elongated.

The Queen Angelfish requires a relatively big aquarium of a minimum of 750 litres, with a variety of hiding holes and live rock for grazing upon. This fish is not a common reef inhabitant, as the Queen Angelfish is usually found to nip at clam mantles and stony and soft corals. Furthermore, as this is a relatively delicate angel it is crucial that the water conditions are perfect when looking to keep the fish in a strong and healthy state.

This fish has the possibility of growing to an remarkable 18 inches and can quickly become aggressive, therefore many suggest it must be added to the aquarium last. Additionally, many state the Queen can be a more demanding fish to home, and they are often said to be susceptible to imperfect water conditions and improper diet.

The Queen Angelfish should be fed a diet of mysis or frozen shrimp, marine algae, spirulina, and other meaty items.

  1. I have a juvenile queen angel that is about 3 inches or so in length. It gets on well with my larger angels but is always back and forth fighting with my passer angelfish which is just slightly smaller. Other than that its a great fish that eats well and looks stunning as a matured adult.
