Midas Blenny

Midas Blenny

The Midas Blenny is loved among the reef tank owners, as it provides a lot of colour and personality to the tank. It holds a solid golden/yellow body and electric blue patched around its eyes. Unlike other blennies, the Midas Blenny swims in a unique manner and moves like a moray eel.

To create a comfortable environment for the Midas Blenny it should still be kept in an aquarium of 50 litres or more, and one with live rock and corals to satisfy the blennies behaviour to perch. Additionally, it should be understood that the Midas Blenny has also been known to distress small planktivores and can possibly have a conflicting relationship towards some gobies.

This blenny is known to be a very peaceful fish, however if housed with too many fish in a aquarium too small it may begin to fight with some species.

Different to most of its members of the blenny family,  the Midas Blenny diet must be fed on a range of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, frozen mysis shrimp, and forms of herbivore preparations.

  1. Beautiful, peaceful fish. Shy for the first couple weeks, now he’s out all the time and swims back in forth(in eel like fashion) in the front of the tank when he sees me; he knows it’s feeding time. He gets along with all my other fish too. He is a jumper though so have a cover on your tank.

  2. My African Midas Blenny came beautiful golden yellow. Very friendly fish, enjoy watching swim around, is not shy at all. Great eater made a nice little home in a rock right away.
