Have the magazine on my knee and Googled the very same thing. Never even heard of it before, nor was I aware of hydrogen peroxide for treating parasites.

I changed the temperature setting to be displayed in centigrade, but when changing the temperature set points they are still in displayed in fahrenheit.
    Does anyone else have this?

I’m sure this could cause some confusion when making custom profiles related to temperature.

The guy at my LFS reckoned that an absolutely spotless tank with no nitrates or phosphates would soon starve Xenia and eliminate it.

Personally I reckon he’s talking rubbish. But you may want to give it a go, because in my experience a strip down and rebuild with new rock is the only thing that works, and even then any reintroduced coral is a risk.

I really Chang see it too clearly but if you get a good look at him , count his legs .
It sounds daft I know but an emerald isn’t a true crab so it would have 6 proper legs plus it’s two claws.
A gorilla crab will have 8 legs, plus it’s two claws .

ok its up and running with a cleaner shrimp as its first tenant – would have preferred a coral banded but none readily available.
this tank has used tap water cycled by the rotting shrimp method, uses under gravel filtration and artificial corals, in addition is the air skimmer and activated carbon – understand that I am by no means recommending others to follow my example, its an experiment to show that not all the methods used 30-40 years ago where wrong, its how today’s methods have come to where they are now and I am convinced (almost) that we have left behind some useful lessons.
time will tell as this tank progresses

    Hi again,

I just did a traceroute to see where the problem lies – seems to be ultimatereef’s server – see below (apologies for the techie answer!)

If u look at node 24, you will see that it has lost 50% of the packets sent to it

Pete, may be worth speaking to your hosting company

What is the pH? Even with softies it’s worth keeping an eye on KH, Ca and Mg, since keeping them right will allow your pH to look after itself (with good oxygenation) and everything in the tank will thank you for that!

I never cultured my own pods but from what I’ve read home grown pods have a much better survival rate than ones you buy in pouches so as long as you constantly add them you may be ok. But like you say keep an eye. I think that sand sifter will clear your pod population a lot faster than the Mandarin will

    Hi Rob,

What damsel is it? I used to have a blue damsel that was as docile as you could get, however I also had a humbug that was a right git and would attack anything new, it actually went blacker in the face when it was angry and you could hear the “pop” of the water when it attacked other fish. Get the damsel out if you can because I reackon it will always attack newcomers now it sees the tank as it’s territory.
