Cardinals are a family, Apogonidae, of ray-finned fishes found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. They are generally small fish, with most species being less than 10 cm (3.9 in), and are often brightly coloured.

Chromis is a genus of fish in the family Pomacentridae. While the term damselfish describes a group of marine fish including more than one genus, most damselfish are in the genus Chromis. These fish are popular aquarium pets due to their small size, tolerance for poor water quality, and bright colors.

Damsels comprise the family Pomacentridae except those of the genera Amphiprion and Premnas, which are the anemonefishes. They can grow up to 14 inches (36 cm) long. Damselfish usually have bright colors.
