Engineer Goby

The Engineer Goby is very common within the marine industry and adds a great bit of personality to any marine tank. This goby is actually in a seperate family from the blennies and gobies, but has a remarkably similar look. Whilst this fish is a juvenile it will display a black or blue body with horizontal lines, however as it matures these lines will become vertical and the fish may display patchy yellow colourings.

In order to keep this fish happy and in an environment alike its natural home, it should be kept in an aquarium of at least 40 litres, with plentiful swimming space, a sand bed for burrowing and live rock for swimming between. Additionally, a tank cover is a must when housing this fish, as it has been known to accidentally jump up and fall out of the aquarium.

The Engineer Goby has been known to be quite active in the home aquarium and therefore should require an aquarium of at least 70 litres. You should also have a relatively deep sand bed, as this fish is known to make burrows to feel safe and comfortable in its enviroment. Many hobbyists also suggest that this goby thrives most when housed with a group or a pair of the same species, however if you wish to do this please do add all Engineer Gobies to the tank at the same time (to eradicate aggressive behaviour).

The Engineer Goby's diet must be fed on a range of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, frozen mysis shrimp, and forms of frozen preparations.
