Black Spine Urchin

Black Spine Sea Urchin

The Black Spine Urchin would most definitely stand out in any marine aquarium it is added to. It has a unique solid black body with a red eyespot in the center and is covered in spines. Its not hard to see just how good their defence mechanism is. However, in addition to their amazing appearance, they are also one of the best clean up crew members in the industry.

In order to keep this amazing specimen thriving in captivity, it is important to make sure your aquarium as an ample amount of live rock that creates hiding places and caves. As this is a nocturnal create, during the day it will most likely remain unseen or hiding within live rock, however as the night comes it will be scavenging the aquarium and controlling algae.

It is important to keep an eye on the Urchins spines, as they will start to fall off in water conditions are poor. Additionally similar to all invertebrates it would not be in a aquarium with elevated copper levels or copper treatment should not be used on a tank containing this Urchin.
