Blood Shrimp

Blood Shrimp

The Blood Shrimp is most definitely one of the most vibrant coloured shrimps in the industry and holds a deep fierce red body and white antennae and spots scattered around. The amount and size of white spots will vary depending on the origin of the shrimp.

This amazing shrimp must be housed correctly, and to do so it will require a aquarium with a live rock forming caves and holes to which the shrimp can hide in and create a territory. Additionally, it is important to note that though this shrimp will tolerate a mate, it will become aggressive to others of its own kind. People also forget that this shrimp is also a cleaner shrimp and will actively attempt to eat and remove parasites and dead tissue from your fish.

It is important to note that this shrimp will not tolerate any copper medications and it will mostly kill it. Furthermore, another thing people forget is that in order to keep these shrimps healthy they will require the correct levels of iodine within the water in order to promote molting.

This shrimp will usually be scavenging the sand bed and live rock for meaty bits of food. However, it should also be offered a diet of live, frozen and flaked foods.

  1. These shrimp are very cool to watch, but very secretive. Mine hide a lot of the time, but start moving around when food is introduced into the tank.

  2. I ordered these as part of your shrimp “package”. I received a beautiful pair of large shrimp. They are fun to watch and ravenous eaters. They do tend to hide most of the day, but become more active towards night. They help with the leftovers from the day! These shrimp make a wonderful addition to any aquarium.
